Financial Assistance For Daycare:

Individuals who work may meet income guidelines that make them eligible for the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Day Care Service Assistance Program. This program may pay part of the expenses for child care for working parents who use care centers, family, or group child care homes. Eligibility is based on family size and monthly incomes. For an application for this assistance program, please call your local DHS office at:

Saginaw County: 989-758-1500


Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC):
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable Federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. To qualify, a taxpayer must file income taxes and have earned income. The adjusted gross income must be less than:

$30,338 for taxpayers with one qualifying child ($31,338 for married and filing jointly) to receive a credit up to $2,604.
$34,458 for taxpayers with more than one qualifying child ($35,458 for married and filing jointly) to receive a credit up to $4,300.
$11,490 for taxpayers with no qualifying child ($12,490 for married and filing jointly) to receive a credit up to $390.

Child Care Tax Credit:
Child Care is a business. It is important for you to obtain your provider’s social security number since you will need it when filling out your income tax papers.

MIChild Health Insurance for Children:
MIChild is health insurance for uninsured children from working families in Michigan. MIChild services are provided by many HMO’s and other health care plans throughout Michigan. For more information, call 1-888-988-6300.

How To Check A Provider’s Licensing Record:
Follow the steps below to check on any inspection information, special investigation reports, or specific information regarding a certain provider:

  1. Go to www.michigan.gov/dhs
  2. On the right side of screen, click “licensing”
  3. On the left side of screen, click “child day care”
  4. This will bring you to an “overview” of Child Day Care Licensing
  5. Scroll down to “License Lookups” and click “Child Day Care Centers and Homes”
  6. Other Options: Scroll down to “Contact Us” and click “FOIA-Freedom of Information Requests for The Office of Children and Adult Licensing” -OR- If you do not have access to the internet and have questions regarding a day care facility please call 517-335-6308.

How To File A Complaint:

  1. Go to www.michigan.gov/dhs
  2. On the right side of screen, click on “licensing”
  3. On the left side of screen, click “child day care”
  4. This will bring you to an “overview” of Child Day Care Licensing”
  5. Scroll down to “contact us” and click on “Complaints”
  6. Other Option: Call this toll free hotline @ 1-866-856-0126 to speak to a person and verbally express your complaint
